The following morning, Sara’s eyes swept over the man in casual slacks and knit shirt who lowered the back door of a big van that dwarfed her Buggy-Boo when she parked beside it.

She walked around her car and took in his appearance. He stood beside the vehicle, apparently waiting for her. She got the impression he wasn’t as tall as Forrest or Albert, but he appeared more muscular. He wasn’t as finely chiseled as Albert, nor as rugged as Forrest, yet he looked quite handsome. His dark wavy hair was swept back behind his ears and lay against the nape of his neck. Clean shaven, he wore that engaging Paridy smile.

Sara extended her hand. “You must be Adam.”

His slight nod affirmed his identity. His hand was warm and strong. “And you have to be Sara, whom I’ve heard so much about. Mom and Sheena think you’re the greatest.”

Greatest what? crossed her mind. She dared not ask.

He let go of her hand and gestured toward the entry. She walked beside him along the curved flagstones.

“They were right,” he said, looking down at her with interest in his eyes. “You are pretty enough to be in pictures.”

Why dispute something like that? “Thank you,” she said, pretending to believe it.

He opened the front screen. “I’ve heard you’ve met Props.”

“Props?” She glanced at the butler. “Props” would likely be his play on words for “Pops.”

But somebody had been talking about her. Maybe that explained the amusement she detected in his eyes. Accept what you canʼt change, she told herself.

“Oh yes,” she said. “Good morning, Mr. DoLittle.”

He chuckled softly.

Adam had been no Mr. DoLittle. He was an appealing football player turned film producer. Sara knew Adam was the youngest brother. About twenty-six, if she remembered correctly. “You’re young to be a film producer, aren’t you?”

“I’m still getting my education in that area,” he said. “But the most valuable lessons come from hands-on experience. I could say that I’m just a genius at it.” He chuckled again. She looked up at him and that mischievous smile. “But I have to admit, my success at an early age can only be attributed to nepotism.”

She liked Adam’s open personality as much as Albert’s reserve. Adam’s charm was not as subtle as Albert’s. That was understandable. A film producer most likely was into flattering those being filmed, while an aspiring politician had to practice weighing every word and action.

She and Adam related amiably as they walked from the hallway into the kitchen.

Sheena’s voice rang out from the booth across the long room. “Well, it’s about time.”

Sara glanced at the clock on the microwave to make sure. “I’m not late.”

“No,” Sheena agreed. “But we’ve been waiting for you. Gotta get this show on the road.”

“Oh, stop teasing her, Sheena,” Vivian said. “Sara, get a cup of coffee and come sit down. We’re trying to make plans for the day.”

“Here, let me pour,” Adam said. “Cream and sugar’s on the table.” He reached for the china cup near the pot.

Albert, in dress pants, white shirt, and tie, stood when Sara walked to the booth.
